What Chin Liposuction Can Do for You and Other Small Areas

How Small-Area Liposuction Works in Our Office, and What It Can’t Do

A small spot calls for a small procedure, and a straight answer first: is this fat that liposuction can remove?

If it is, the area is numbed first. Dr. Malotky then makes small incisions, loosens the fat with a thin tube called a cannula, and draws it out. Under the chin, that’s usually one small incision.

What sets it apart:

  • Done in our office under local anesthesia, and home the same day
  • A few small incisions
  • Fat removed through those incisions, unlike treatments from outside the skin

Liposuction isn’t weight loss, and it can’t tighten loose skin or smooth cellulite. Loose skin under the chin is a job for our neck lift surgery or a direct neck lift, and loose belly skin for a tummy tuck. Larger areas need liposuction in the operating room.

Your Small-Area Liposuction, From Consultation to Back at Work

It starts with a thorough discussion of your goals and health, and Dr. Malotky looks at the spot with you.

Next, California requires a physical exam and written clearance in the 30 days before an elective cosmetic procedure, confirmed on the day.

In the weeks before, you stop smoking or vaping and avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicines, and supplements that increase bleeding. 

On the day, the area is numbed in our office, and you go home the same day. California requires that a responsible adult take you home and hear your aftercare instructions. 

For a week or two you wear a compression garment, for as long as Dr. Malotky sets, and you come back for follow-up visits as you heal.

Then it’s back to work, in the few days to a week most people need.

Does Chin Liposuction Under Local Anesthesia Hurt? What You’ll Feel During and After

Chin liposuction is done under local anesthesia: the area is numbed, and you aren’t put to sleep. Afterward, it may be mildly sore for up to about two weeks, eased with a prescription or over-the-counter pain reliever.

Before anything is planned, Dr. Malotky goes over your health and history with you at your consultation, and California’s exam and clearance follow in the 30 days before.

Common Questions About Chin Liposuction

Will chin liposuction tighten loose skin or jowls?

No. Chin liposuction removes fat, not loose skin. Jowls from loose lower-face skin, loose neck skin, and neck bands are what a neck lift treats, and our neck lift procedure is built for them. Firm, elastic skin gives liposuction a better result, so Dr. Malotky looks at your skin with you before suggesting either.

What happens if I gain weight after liposuction?

After liposuction, weight you gain later usually won’t concentrate in the treated area, but the procedure won’t stop you gaining weight. Weight gain, aging, and pregnancy can each change the result, which lasts as long as your weight stays stable. Dr. Malotky talks through your weight and plans with you before he sets your plan.

When will I see results from chin liposuction?

Results from chin liposuction show as the swelling goes down. Most of it eases within two weeks to two months, and the area can take several months to settle fully. Good results are the aim, though no result is guaranteed and a second procedure is sometimes needed. Dr. Malotky sees you at follow-up visits as you heal.

Will chin liposuction leave a scar?

Chin liposuction is done through small incisions, usually one small incision under the chin. Living tissue heals in its own way, so how each incision settles varies from person to person. Dr. Malotky checks how yours is healing at your follow-up visits.

Does insurance cover chin liposuction?

No. Chin liposuction is cosmetic, Summit Plastic Surgery doesn’t bill insurance for cosmetic procedures, and most health plans don’t cover liposuction. Payment plans through our patient financing partners are an option. Dr. Malotky sets your plan at your consultation, and your price comes from that plan, so you know it before you decide.
